Loose Cannon Response

The statement

This is to confirm our discussion and agreement at our Labor/Management Meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

Previously, we had a 3rd step grievance hearing that addressed concerns about Cleaners performing some electrical tasks in the District and in the 3rd step decision, Dr. Dutkowsky suggested that any further concerns in this matter should be addressed at our regularly scheduled L/M meetings.

At Wednesday's meeting we discussed, and agreed, that there are three (3) job titles involved that CSEA represents: Cleaners, Head Night Cleaners and Building Maintenance Mechanics. By virtue of their job descriptions, Building Maintenance Mechanics can be instructed, and are trained, to perform electrical work. Also, Head Night Cleaners can be assigned to perform ... "minor maintenance activities such as the replacement of lights and ballasts". Cleaners are not to perform electrical work.

The District has provided training and will continue to provide training and all necessary safety equipment to employees consistent with the employee's responsibility. Cleaners have been trained and will continue to be trained on identifying and avoiding hazards, not to perform electrical work.

All Head Night Cleaners and Maintenance Mechanics will be trained on proper procedures before being assigned to perform electrical work that is consistent with their job description.

Further more the Department of Labor came in on 1/20/06 and found no safety violations, which means that CSEA and the District along with SUSA have been doing all that they can to make Shenendehowa CSD a safe working environment.
